Skill Programme – Manchester

On Friday 6th July 2012, it was my privilege to be invited to be a 'Tiger' in the Tigers' Cage at The Skill Programme at DWF Solicitors in Manchester.
The aim of the Tigers' Cage is to help students develop and refine their communication and presentation skills by pitching creative, enterprising ideas. The students were from Moss Side and Salford Schools and in total, 10 teams pitched their ideas to us.

The presentations included talent competitions, community projects and technology-based products. The students only had a few hours to prepare their pitches and not only did they have to pitch to the tigers, they were being watched by their peers and their teachers. I can't imagine how nervous they must have been but to their credit, they all performed admirably and they were all a credit to themselves and their schools. In fact, I think the Tigers were just as nervous as the students!

The organiser, Patrick Philpott deserves a lot of credit for organising these events and what a great way for students to learn these vital skills! Lets hope they continue and more schools up and down the country get involved.

I for one would be very happy to get involved again.
