Golden Lane Housing (Mencap)
Helping bring commercial experience to a housing charity
The background
Created by Mencap, Golden Lane Housing provides homes to people with learning disabilities. Its mission is to provide the solid foundation and community support upon which individuals can fulfil their potential. They approached Beyond Interactive to help them find a Business Development Manager. A role vital to helping them to unearth and develop commercially viable housing opportunities, our challenge was to deliver the lowest possible cost-per-hire for this charity.
Solution
Our fist challenge was to work with Golden Lane Housing to identify their 'ideal candidate'. Whilst a passion for community care and charity work was important, we realised that commercial acumen was the essential skill a candidate needed for success in this role. So, in addition to targeting readers of charity-specific media, we also chose to advertise this role to estate agents looking to do something more worthwhile with their careers. So, we widened our media plan to include: Thirdsector, Inside Hosing and Guardian websites.
Results
We delivered 30 quality applications and 11 of these were invited to an interview. From these candidates, Golden Lane Housing appointed a housing professional who had subsequently worked for a leading London-based estate agency. The cost-per-hire was £3,400 - and this fell well within their budgetary requirements.
